How does the Kiwanis Club of Monroe raise money?

To support the many and varied projects of the Monroe Community, the Kiwanis Club of Monroe must earn funds with which to conduct these programs.

Funding comes through many sources:

  • A candy sale conducted late each fall.
  • Commissions from Gumball machines, which are seen in many Monroe businesses, and have a Kiwanis emblem on them.
  • Concession stands at Fall Nationals Tractor Pull, Cheese days, Disc Golf Tournament, and others

The candy sale is conducted in conjunction with Colony Brands, which provides a one-of-a-kind milk chocolate/macadamia nut candy in specially packaged Kiwanis tins, for sale to the general public. Individual Kiwanians subscribe to certain numbers of tins, sell the candies and the profit is used for Kiwanis service activities.

Because of strict Kiwanis by-laws, monies earned from these fund-raisers are turned back to the community in various service projects. Operation of the club itself (administratively) is funded by dues paid by the individual members.

Participation from Monroe and area residents in these fund-raising activities is appreciated by the club, for it serves as an avenue for the club to provide benefits to the community that would not otherwise be available.
